The New York Liberty and Chicago Sky played at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Il in the Commissioner’s Cup last night. The Sky got off to a blistering start and led the Liberty 32-27 after the first quarter of action. The Liberty would respond in the second period outsourcing the Sky 20-13 and they would take a 47-45 lead heading into the half. In the third quarter the Liberty would outscore the Sky 27-23 and they would take a 74-68 lead into the final frame. It was a back and forth 4th quarter that culminated in a wild turn of events to close out the game. Sydney Taylor hit a deep three pointer to give the Sky the lead with 15.6 seconds left but Sabrina Ionescu would respond with what would turn out to be the winning bucket driving to her left and making a left handed layup with 10.6 seconds left. Sydney Taylor would get a shot at the buzzer to win the game for the Sky but the shot missed long and the Liberty escaped Chicago with a 96-95 victory, and extended their winning streak to 8, and they finished Commissioner’s Cup play with a 7-0 record. The Liberty will host the Aces for the Commissioner’s Cup Championship on June 30 at 7 PM broadcast on Prime Video. The Liberty had five players in double-figures led by 19 points and 8 rebounds from Jonquel Jones, Breanna Stewart poured in 17 points and six rebounds, Satou Sabally scored 17 points off the bench, Sabrina Ionescu scored 10 points, and Rebekah Gardner finished with 10 points off the bench. The Sky also had five players in double-figures led by rookies Sydney Taylor and Gabriela Jaquez who put up 24, and 22 points (Career-high) respectively, Skylar Diggins scored 10 points, Natasha Cloud scored 11 points off the bench, and Kamilla Cardoso scored 10 points.

The Chicago Sky head to Dallas to play the Wings on Saturday June 20 at 8 PM broadcast on CBS.
