The New York Liberty visited the Toronto Tempo from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada last night. The Liberty would be trailing by a score of 24-19 after the first quarter. They were then trailing 47-39 at the half but the lead kept extending for the Tempo and would get up to as many as 20 points in the second half. The Liberty were trailing by a score of 80-64 after three quarters. The Liberty got into a bit of a rhythm in the fourth quarter and cut the lead to a tie with just around a minute left. There was some bad blood between these two teams, specifically between Betnijah Laney-Hamilton, and Marine Mabrey. Early on in the game Marina Mabrey got hit in the face by Laney-Hamilton who was trying to get away from a potential jump ball and then her arm was flailing which led to her picking up her first technical foul. In the fourth quarter, Jonquel Jones lost her shoe and played a whole possession without her shoe and the throw from Betnijah Laney-Hamilton trying to get the shoe back to Jones ended up overthrowing her and hitting Marina Mabrey right in the back which led to Betnijah Laney-Hamilton getting ejected from the game. Sabrina Ionescu led the Liberty scoring 28 points, 8 assists, and 4 rebounds, Breanna Stewart had 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists, Pauline Astier had 14 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists, Jonquel Jones finished with a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Marina Mabrey led the Tempo with 30 points, 5 assists, and 2 rebounds, Laura Juskaite had 18 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists, Maria Conde had 15 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists, Nyara Sabally 13 points and 7 rebounds. The Liberty fell by a final score of 93-91. The Liberty fell to 13-11 on the season and have lost 3 games in a row, the Tempo snapped a four-game losing streak and improved to 10-13 on the season.
