New York Liberty v Golden State Valkyries recap 6/28/2026

The New York Liberty traveled to San Francisco to play the Golden State Valkyries to finish off their west coast road trip. The Valkyries led for the entire game after they scored the first bucket of the game, and then went on to outscore the Liberty 20-15 in the first quarter. Then it was a fairly even second quarter until the Valkyries hit 3 three pointers in a row to end the half by Cecilia Zandalisini, Kayla Thornton, and Gabby Williams to extend their lead out to 41-29. The 29 points was the Liberty’s lowest outpoint of the season for a half. The Valkyries then extended their lead further in the third quarter, outscoring Liberty 23-19, and extending their lead to 64-48. The Liberty would outscore the Valkyries 19-12 in the final quarter and cut the lead into single digits but the game was never as close as the final score wound up making it appear. The Liberty fell 76-67. The Liberty only had two players scored in double-figures with Jonquel Jones leading the way scoring 21 points on an efficient 5-8 shooting and 3-6 from three point range, Breanna Stewart had a very quiet first half but still wound up scoring 15 points and grabbing 4 rebounds. The Valkyries had a very balanced scoring effort with 4 players scoring in double-figures led by Kaila Charles who put up 13 puts on 6-12 from the field, Kayla Thornton put up 11 points on 4-7 from the field and 2-5 from three, Cecilia Zandalisini and Janelle Salaun scored 10 points each. The Liberty fell to 12-8 on the season and have lost back-to-back games after falling to the Storm on Thursday night. The Valkyries improved to 13-7 and are now winners of 3 straight.
