New York Liberty v. Chicago Sky Recap 8/18/2026

The New York Liberty visited the Chicago Sky for their third meeting of the season from Wintrust Arena in Chicago. The game was all knotted up at 24 after the first quarter, then in the second quarter the Liberty were outscored 30-19 which gave the Sky a 54-43 halftime lead but the Liberty are no strangers to coming back against the Sky doing so in both of the other meetings this season which were both won by 1 point by the Liberty. In the third quarter, the Liberty would outscore the Sky 23-20 which would begin to cut into the lead with the Liberty still trailing 74-66 but cutting the lead down from 11 at halftime to 8 points. In the fourth quarter, the Liberty would once again outscore the Sky by a score of 20-19, the Liberty would take their first lead since early in the first quarter when Marine Johannes nailed a 3 pointer to give the Liberty an 84-83 lead but then after that point the Liberty would be held scoreless for nearly 2 and half minutes and the Sky would go on an extended 10-2 run to close out the game and pull out the win with a final score of 93-86. In the win the Sky had three players score in double-digits led by a career-high 35 points on 13-21 from the field, 4-8 from beyond the arc, grabbing 9 rebounds, and dishing out 6 assists, Kamilla Cardoso scored 17 points on 6-12 from the field, grabbed 12 rebounds, dished out 4 assists, picked up 2 steals, and 1 block, Azura Stevens had 12 points on 5-9 from the field, 0-1 from distance, grabbed 7 rebounds, dished out 2 assists, and picked up a block. In the loss the Liberty had 4 players score in double-digits led by Breanna Stewart who had 22 points on 8-13 from the field, 1-3 from distance, grabbed 7 rebounds, dished out 3 assists, picked up 3 steals, and 1 block, Sabrina Ionescu had 18 points on 7-17 from the field, 2-10 from three, grabbed 7 rebounds, dished out 12 assists, picked up 1 steal, and 1 block, Rebecca Allen scored 14 points on 5-10 from the field, 3-7 from three, grabbed 5 rebounds, dished out 1 assist, picked up 2 steals, and a block, Han Xu had 12 points on 4-11 from the field, 2-7 from three, grabbed 7 rebounds, and picked up 1 block. Breanna Stewart became the first player to score 3,000 points with two different WNBA franchises having now scored 3,008 points with the Liberty, and also scored 3,723 points with the Seattle Storm. The Sky improved to 14-22 on the season, while the Liberty fell to 22-15 on the season.
