Mets v Yankees Recap 9/11/2026

The New York Mets visited the New York Yankees in game 1 of the Subway Series last night. The Mets would go scoreless in the first inning and then the Yankees would get a run in the first inning from an RBI single by Spencer Jones but the Mets were lucky it wasn’t more as the Yankees left runners on base. In the second inning, The Mets would respond to the run by the Yankees after Mark Vientos drew a leadoff walk, and then two batters later Marcus Semien hit a single with an error advancing runners to 2nd and 3rd before Christopher Morel got an RBI groundout to tie the game at 1. The Yankees would respond in the bottom of the second, after they had 2 outs and nobody on, Anthony Volpe and Ben Rice both singled before Cody Bellinger brought the hammer down with a three-run homer to give the Yankees a 4-1 lead. Then both teams went scoreless in the 3rd, and 4th innings, and the Mets were held scoreless in the 5th. The Yankees would score another run in the bottom of the 5th inning on a home run from Ben Rice which gave the Yankees a 5-1 lead and the Yankees left more runners on base after a pair of base hits, Nolan Mclean did a good job to limit the damage in that inning. The Mets would go scoreless again in the 6th inning getting retired 1-2-3 by Carlos Rodon on a pair of strikeouts and a groundout. In the bottom of the 6th, The Mets would go to Jack Weisenburger out of the bullpen and he would give the Mets a quick 1-2-3 inning replacing Nolan Mclean by getting Ryan Mcmahon and Austin Wells to groundout before getting Anthony Volpe to flyout. Nolan Mclean had a shaky outing going 5 innings, giving up a career-high 10 hits, 5 earned runs, walking 1, and striking out 5. The Mets would finally knock out Carlos Rodon in the 7th inning. Carlos Rodon went 6.1 innings, gave up 3 hits, 2 runs (1 earned) , 1 walk, and striking out 8. The Mets were able to get to the Yankees bullpen a little bit but only getting one run out of it with an RBI single from AJ Ewing before Brent Headrick got one huge out on a lineout back to him with the bases loaded by Francisco Lindor. The Mets had their opportunities again in the 8th inning but again ended up only getting one-run by leaving runners at the corners after a Marcus Semien sacrifice fly by getting Jared Young to flyout to end the threat. The Yankees would get that run right back in the bottom of the inning by getting an RBI single from Ryan McMahon which gave them a much needed insurance run. The Mets would score 1 run in the 9th inning on an AJ Ewing homer but they would come up short after a Francisco Lindor single, Juan Soto grounded into a double play to end the game, the Yankees held on to win 6-4. The Yankees improved to 85-62 while the Mets fell to 68-79 on the season.
