The Chicago Bandits and Oklahoma City Spark matched up in Athlete’s Unlimited Softball League (AUSL) action at The Stadium at Parkway Banks Sports Complex in Rosemont, IL on Saturday Afternoon. The Spark offense started out early, getting a three-run home run off the bat of Bubba Nickles-Camarena in the top of the first inning. The offense was just getting started as they’d put up four runs in the second inning aided by home runs from Sydney Sherrill and Delaney Wisz, and an RBI triple from Sydney Romero. The Spark would add on two more runs in the third and fourth innings with Sydney Romero driving in her second run of the game with an RBI single, and Delaney Wisz hitting her second home run of the afternoon to put the Bandits in danger of a run-rule (The run-rule means that the game ends if a team is trailing by 8 runs after 5 innings if the home team is trailing or 4 and a half innings if the road team is trailing). Delaney Wisz leads the AUSL with 3 home runs on the season. Mary Iakopo hit a solo home run to lead off the 5th inning trying to spark a rally but that was the only run they’d score and they would wind up losing 9-1 in five innings. Maya Johnson gave the Spark four shutout innings giving up only one hit, striking out four, and walking two. The Spark replaced her with Ruby Meylan for the fifth inning. Ruby Meylan started off her outing a little rocky, giving up a home run and a walk to the first two batters she faced before striking out the final three batters to end the game. The Bandits fell to 0 and 4 on the season while the Spark improved to 3-1 on the young season.
