The New York Liberty hosted the Los Angeles Sparks for the third and final meeting of the season between the two teams last night. The Liberty would outscore the Sparks 21-16 in the opening quarter. They would continue to extend their lead outscoring the Spark 28-16 which would extend the Liberty out to a 49-32 lead at the halftime break. In the third quarter, The Liberty would hold the Sparks to the lowest point total they have allowed in any quarter all season just giving up 9 points and the Liberty scored 18 points and took a 67-41 lead into the fourth quarter. The Sparks would not go down easily and absolutely exploded offensively in the final frame scoring 40 points and holding the Liberty to just 18 points including a 21-0 run and a 26-2 run, the Liberty barely held on in a game that they had a lead of as many as 28 points, and only won the game 85-81. In the win the Liberty had 5 players score in double digits led by Sabrina Ionescu who finished the game with 20 points on 6-17 from the field, and 1-9 from three, grabbed 3 rebounds, and dished out 4 assists, and picked up 2 steals, Rebecca Allen scored 13 points on 5-10 from the field, and 3-5 from beyond the arc, grabbed 1 rebound, dished out 1 assist, and picked up 2 steals, Breanna Stewart had 11 points on 5-13 from the field, and 0-3 from behind the arc, grabbed 6 rebounds, dished out 5 assists, and picked up 2 steals, Jonquel Jones had 11 points on 5-10 from the field, and 0-1from the field, grabbed 18 rebounds, dished out 4 assists, picked up 1 steal, and 1 block, Marine Johannes had 10 points on 3-8 from the field, and 2-5 from beyond the arc, grabbed 2 rebounds, and dished out 1 assist. In the loss the Sparks had 3 players score in double-digits led by Rae Burrell who had 28 points including 20 points in the fourth quarter on 10-19 from the field, and 5-10 from beyond the arc, grabbed 3 rebounds, dished out 3 assists, picked up 1 steal, and 1 block, Dearica Hamby had 16 points on 7-11 from the field, grabbed four rebounds, and dished out 3 assists, and picked up one block, Nneka Ogwumike had 10 points on 4-11 from the field, and 0-2 from beyond the arc, grabbed 11 rebounds, dished out four assists, picked up 1 steal, and 1 block. The Liberty improved to 21-14 while the Sparks fell to 12-21.
