The Golden State Valkyries hosted the Atlanta Dream last night from the Chase Center in San Francisco. After a tightly contested first quarter where the Valkyries outscored the Dream 22-18. The Valkyries would continue to extend their lead on the Dream, and took a 17 point lead heading into the halftime break leading 44-27. The Valkyries had 5 blocked shots in the first half, and only allowed the Dream to shoot 1-10 from three. The Valkyries would extend their lead in the second half to as many as 26 points over the Dream, and would take a 63-40 lead into the final quarter. The Dream offense would start to click in the fourth quarter when they outscored the Valkyries 26-14, and started the quarter on an 11-0 run but they had dug themselves too big of a hole to climb out of, and would end up cutting the lead down to 10 a couple of times in the quarter but never getting closer than that. The Valkyries would hold on to win by a score of 77-66. The Valkyries got great offensive production out of their star players led by Gabby Williams who put up a game-high 23 points to go along with 5 rebounds, and 5 assists as well on 3-5 from three, and 9-16 from the field, Kayla Thornton scored 17 points on 50% (6-12) from the field and 50% (5-10) from the three-point line, Cecilia Zandalisini put up 14 points on 4-9 from the field, and 4-6 from three. Veronica Burton also had a good all around game scoring 8 points, grabbing five rebounds, and a game-high 7 assists. The Dream had three players score in double-figures led by Madina Okot who scored 16 points including 11 points in the fourth on 7-9 from the field and 1-1 from three, and grabbing 5 rebounds, Rhyne Howard put up 12 points on 5-11 from the field, and 1-5 from three, grabbed 5 rebounds, and dished out three assists, Angel Reese scored 10 points on 3-12 from the field, grabbed 12 rebounds (7 offensive rebounds), and dished out a team-high 4 assists. The Valkyries improved to 11-7 on the season, while the Dream fell to 12-5.
